Files

Browse, preview, edit, upload, and organize files on the host.

Workspace → Files is a file manager for the host directories allowed by JD_FILE_ROOTS (default /). Those roots are enforced on every operation, including copy, move, search, archive, and upload. A read-only dashboard account can still read allowed files, so set the roots to match the access you intend to grant.

The sidebar lists Home, Starred, This server, and Recent. Every folder has its own address, so the browser's Back and Forward buttons, your mouse's history buttons, and shared links all work. The listing supports details or tiles, hidden files, sorting, typing to jump to a name, keyboard navigation, and multiple selection with Shift, Ctrl, or a dragged rectangle. Press ? for the page's shortcuts.

Select a file to open it in the inspector with its preview, details, owner, and permissions. Open images, video, audio, PDFs, text, and archives in the full viewer; press Space in the listing and use arrow keys to move between files. Large or binary files may be previewable without being editable.

Find locates paths by a fuzzy name match in this folder, its home, or everywhere. Content search looks inside files; a bounded search tells you when it stopped early instead of implying it covered the whole disk. Star a frequently used directory to make it available from your other devices. Folder colors are stored on the server and follow a moved folder.

Change files

  1. Use New for a file or folder, or Upload to send files or whole folders. Dragging files from your desktop into the listing also queues uploads with per-file progress.
  2. If a destination name already exists, choose Replace, Keep both, or Skip. Files are not silently overwritten. Each upload request is limited to 2 GiB.
  3. Open a text file in the editor, beside the listing or in a full workspace with a folder tree. Review the changes against the version you opened, then save; if the file changed on disk meanwhile, the editor tells you rather than overwriting it. Images open in an image editor. The viewer and editor are separate so a preview of a large log cannot accidentally replace it with its trimmed preview.
  4. Right-click an item, or press Shift+F10, for rename, duplicate, copy, cut, permissions, download as .zip or .tar.gz, Extract here, and deletion. Drag a selected item onto a folder, breadcrumb, or sidebar place; hold Ctrl or Alt to copy instead of move.

Uploads and file replacement write a temporary sibling before replacing the destination. The file manager keeps the existing file's owner, mode, and access ACL where it can; if preservation fails, the replacement fails before the old file is lost. A folder's menu also offers Open a shell here in Terminal and Open in Git to review a repository's changes in Git before committing.
