Host users and SSH keys

Manage Linux accounts on the server separately from dashboard sign-ins.

Open Advanced → Server configuration → System users as a dashboard administrator. The page opens on the host's people, how many have a way to sign in, how many SSH keys are authorised, and who signed in last and from where. Its verdict counts accounts that need no password; selecting it narrows the list to them. Below, three blocks show recent sign-ins over 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days, who can become root (through sudo, wheel, admin, or docker group membership, or uid 0), and whose SSH keys open the host.

The account cards show each account's groups, shell, password state, recent login, and SSH-key count. Search by name, group, or shell, or use the Sign-in routes, Administrators, No password, and Password locked chips. System accounts are hidden until you turn on System accounts.

Add or update a host user

Select New account, then enter a Username, an optional Full name, a Shell, and Groups (comma-separated; each must already exist). Add an SSH public key if the person should sign in over SSH. The account is created with no password, so a key is the only way in; the key is validated before the account exists. Group and shell choices are made when the account is created.

For an existing account, its menu offers Lock password or Unlock password. Open the card to manage its SSH keys: each is listed with its comment and SHA-256 fingerprint, Authorise another key adds one, and Revoke key removes one.

Paste only a single public key. The dashboard rejects private keys and multiline input, and refuses a key already authorised for that account. Protected system accounts cannot be locked or deleted through this page.

Deleting a host user uses an ordinary confirmation that shows its uid and home directory. The home directory is left in place, so inspect and handle that data separately. A dashboard user is a different identity; changing a host user does not change web sign-in access. See Dashboard accounts.
